What a great article on the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (“Lifelines to Home on the Air,” by Brian Lowry, July 2)! As the former art director of the network, I remember attending industry functions and conventions, and being met with a collection of snickers, stares of disbelief and outright denial.
While I now have a great job with a major cable network, it will never compare with the five years I spent as a staff sergeant in the Army watching the network go from a simple program provider to “the greatest network you’ve never seen.”
Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and their families deserve the best television and radio we could give them, and I’m proud to say that we did it.
