Rebels, Paramilitary Forces Clash; 100 Die

More than 100 people have been killed in fighting this week between Marxist rebels and Colombia’s main right-wing paramilitary force, authorities said. As many as 60 rebels and 15 members of the paramilitary Self-Defense Forces reportedly were slain in Bolivar province, and at least 28 paramilitary troops were killed in Antioquia province, authorities said. Colombia’s civil conflict, pitting rebel groups against the army and paramilitary forces, has claimed more than 35,000 lives since 1990.
