Paul Young; Singer With Mike and the Mechanics

Paul Young, 53, British rock singer with the group Mike and the Mechanics. Young joined Mike and the Mechanics when it was formed in 1985 by Mike Rutherford, a bassist with the band Genesis. The group’s first hit was “Silent Running” in 1986, a song that was used as the theme in the film “On Dangerous Ground.” Young was a founding member of Sad Cafe, a Manchester group, in the 1970s and contributed to such hits as “Run Home Girl” and “Babylon.” His signature song with Mike and the Mechanics was the up-tempo “All I Need Is a Miracle.” He was often confused with another British pop singer named Paul Young who was known for the 1985 hit “Every Time You Go Away”. On Saturday at his home in Altrincham, England, apparently of a heart attack.
