NBC Contests FCC Limit on Station Ownership
- Share via
NBC on Thursday challenged a federal limit on station ownership.
In a filing with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the network said the rule implemented by the Federal Communications Commission was outdated in today’s competitive environment.
The regulation forbids one company from owning stations that reach more than 35% of U.S. households. The FCC recently conducted a review of its media ownership rules but chose not to modify the national cap.
NBC wants the agency to base its regulation on how many people actually are watching the network, not on how large an audience could be.
