Capt. Steve Nagel of the Fire Department has been promoted to battalion chief. Nagel, who began his career as a fireman in 1974, joined the Fountain Valley Fire Department in April 1977. Nagel was promoted to captain in 1991 and received the Firefighter of the Year Award in 1995. The promotion goes into effect immediately, officials said.
