The Public Works Department removed some deteriorating playground equipment from Sunset Park this week as a safety precaution, Public Works Director Robert Warren said.
The base of the wooden structures, which Warren described as wood and steel bar climbing apparatuses, had rotted away due to weathering, making them unsafe for children.
Warren said the equipment’s deterioration was discovered during regular monthly inspections mandated by the state.
Warren said he hoped to replace the equipment within two to three months.
