Rancho Alamitos Hires Esperanza’s Enright

Rancho Alamitos High has hired Esperanza offensive coordinator Mike Enright as football coach.
He replaces Doug Case, who is now at Foothill. In seven seasons Case compiled a 50-28-3 record at Rancho Alamitos and led the Vaqueros to three Garden Grove League titles. But Enright said Tuesday he faces a rebuilding year after the Vaqueros went 3-7 in 1999.
WATER POLO
The nation’s top 12 men’s teams begin competition Friday in the annual Senior National Tournament at the Olympic Training Center at the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center.
All 16 members of the U.S. national team are expected to participate for their respective club teams. The New York Athletic Club and the Olympic Club have dominated previous tournaments, winning a combined total of 34 national titles.

BASKETBALL
Cypress College announced that guard Triana Allen has accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Gonzaga.
The 5-foot-6 guard from Long Beach Poly was a first-team All-Orange Empire Conference selection, averaging 19.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists. She helped the Chargers reach the Southern California Regional finals, averaging 23 points in the playoffs.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Softball Coach Nick Trani of Saddleback College, soccer Coach Ray Haas of Cypress College and swimming Coach John Wright of Golden West have been named coaches of the year in their respective sports by the California Coaches Assn.
