Aaron Segovia hit two three-run home runs and Scott Drew pitched 6 1/3 solid innings to lead Ojai-Santa Paula past Ventura, 11-4, in the District 16 American Legion National League (18-and-under) championship game Sunday at Nordhoff High in Ojai.
Segovia, a junior outfielder at Santa Paula High, hit his first three-run homer over the center-field fence in the first inning off Ventura starter Jack Swisher that gave the Outlaws (23-5-1) a 5-0 lead. He belted a three-run homer to left field off reliever Michael Smith in the seventh.
“On the first one, he threw me a fastball inside and I got around on it,” Segovia said. “So I knew the next time, they were going to throw me a curve because the first time I hit the fastball.”
Ojai’s victory was the most one-sided in six games against Ventura (19-8) this season. Though the Outlaws took first place in the regular season, they lost twice to Ventura, which was missing five players Sunday, and won each of the other three games by one run.
Drew had two hits and two RBIs. Brian Fryar and Nathan Pierce each had three hits and an RBI.
Both teams advance to the Area 6 tournament.
