Regarding reports of low attendance and other negative news about the World’s Fair in Hanover, Germany (News, Tips & Bargains, June 11): I just returned from a trip to Eastern Europe to visit family and did a three-day stop at Expo 2000.
While it is certainly the least impressive of the nine World Expositions I have attended over the years, it does have some merit if you happen to be on the Continent for other purposes.
We are the only country not represented (alas), but there are several worthwhile pavilions, the best being Germany (spectacular theater), Netherlands (a high-rise view of the fair, and you descend into fields of flowers on the bottom floor), South Korea (best show), Japan (an entire building made of paper) and Spain (three connecting theaters concerning the preservation of the environment).
Food and hotels were reasonably priced. With the small crowds, you can see the entire Expo in two days.
