Two people were injured Saturday afternoon after an employee at a Newport Beach carwash lost control of a car he was moving, striking one customer and pinning another against a wall.
Sharon Evelyn Marshall, 47, of Santa Ana, who was temporarily trapped against the wall, was in surgery at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana on Saturday night with multiple broken bones, police said. Another customer, Tom Casulas, 51, suffered lacerations on his right leg and pain in his hands and arms.
Marshall and Casulas, both of Huntington Beach, were seated in the waiting area of the Car Spa, at 1200 W. Coast Highway, while their cars were being dried, according to police Investigator Mark Miller.
An employee of the carwash was moving Casulas’ 1994 Mercedes when it lurched forward, striking Casulas before pinning Marshall.
The employee fled on foot after the accident. Police were still searching for the employee late Saturday.
