When Macy Was Natalie

It is great to see Macy Gray finally getting the acknowledgment she deserves (“Times Have Tried Her Soul,” by Robert Hilburn, July 2). About 12 years ago or so, I played with her in a band called Tommi when she was Natalie McIntyre, and besides being “green” and a bit flat now and then, she was truly a compassionate, honest and generous human.

To be honest, I was unaware that Natalie had become Macy till fairly recently and it is great to know she is finally getting the recognition and happiness she earned.
