The Capistrano Unified School Board has updated district standards for high school math and history and elementary English.
The board approved the changes this week to match new textbooks and recent additions to state guidelines.
Standards for Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II/Trigonometry and Math Analysis will reflect material in the new books.
The history guidelines will have a renewed emphasis on geography, democratic values and information literacy and technology, according to district reports.
Students also will learn more about the functions of city, county and state governments.
New English standards will reflect language arts requirements the state adopted last year. District officials said they hope the emphasis on reading and writing skills will reinforce the strong Stanford 9 standardized test scores students earned this year.
