A portion of the Dana Point Harbor has been closed to swimmers and divers after a sewage spill from a Harbor Patrol building bathroom, the Orange County Health Care Agency announced late Wednesday.
A blocked sewer line from the bathroom, which is used by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, led to a toilet overflow, spilling sewage into nearby docks in the East Basin of the harbor.
The bathroom is just 10 feet from the edge of the harbor.
The area will be closed until tests indicate that bacteria have returned to acceptable levels.
The closure is the 10th in Dana Point this year. Most of the spills have been caused by sewage in South County.
