Ward S. Grange, a retired mechanic and former forestry worker, died Saturday at his home in Oak View. He was 85.
He was born April 19, 1915, in Orangeville, Utah, where he grew up and attended school.
He worked for the U.S. Forestry Service in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho until 1947 when he moved to Ventura.
He became a mechanic for Rocky Mountain Drilling Co. and later worked for Reynolds Electric for 20 years before retiring in 1980.
Grange was a member of the Ojai 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Boise, Idaho, and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 12.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting and fishing with his sons. Grange also loved helping others and served as a volunteer for several HELP of Ojai projects.
Grange is survived by sons Burnell of Carson City, Nev., Phillip of Diamond Bar, and Bruce of Placentia; a sister, Olive Magnuson of Salt Lake City; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, May Twitchell Grange.
Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ojai with services scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
