COSTA MESA

The Planning Commission on Monday voted unanimously to support scaled-down plans for a Mesa Verde housing development, recommending that the City Council approve the project.

The project is planned for a 12-acre Adams Avenue lot owned by the Segerstrom family. Standard Pacific, a Costa Mesa-based builder, reduced the number of homes it proposed for the lot from 90 to 69 after the Planning Commission and City Council both rejected their original proposal last spring.

City officials said they were satisfied with the scaled-down project. Dana Bieber, the project manager, said she was glad developers had reached agreement with area residents.

Karen Robinson of the Mesa Verde Homeowners Assn. said, however, the homes would clash with the neighborhood’s character and flood nearby residential streets with traffic.
