Dell Dumps WebPC

Dell Computer Corp. stopped production of its WebPC less than eight months after its introduction because it didn’t catch on with consumers. The WebPC was Dell’s least-expensive model, selling for less than $1,000, but it cost more than stripped-down PCs made by rivals. Separately, Dell Chairman Michael Dell sold 6.25 million company shares between June 19 and June 30 at prices ranging from $48.86 to $50 each, raising $308.9 million, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. After the sales, he still owned 298.9 million shares of the company he founded in 1994, the filing showed.
