Van Nuys Air Expo

In response to David Morley’s letter (“Van Nuys Air Expo,” July 2), I would like to say how much my family and I support the Van Nuys air show and the days before and after the event. My family and I live in Northridge near the airport and thrill to the planes arriving and leaving. I started my vacation a day early to stay home and experience the arrival of exotic aircraft that fly over our house prior to landing.
It’s not every day F-16s, F-18s and the stealth bomber fly over!
Yes, the flyovers can be loud, but not much louder than the corporate jets that scream out of the airport at night with great regularity or the armada of helicopters that clog the skies. I suggest that these two repeat offenders are the real sonic villains, not the once-a-year air show.
We moved to Northridge last year and went to the expo. We had a wonderful time learning about aviation history and participating in a free, family-oriented community event for all ages and sexes. We even got to eat our lunch under the shade cover of an F-16.
In an age when such family events are nonexistent, this is one event in which I feel our tax dollars are well spent since a lot of it trickles back to the community. Long live the Van Nuys Air Expo!
