Bus Service Offered to Beach, Museum

A new Dial-A-Ride bus service will pick up residents from their Oxnard homes or take tourists to the beach and the local museum starting today.

The bus will serve those living in the harbor and beaches area, south of 5th Street and west of Patterson Road. The area will include Silver Strand and Hollywood Beach.

One minibus will operate like a taxi, picking up residents whenever they call.

“Our goal is to try and serve the rider within 30 minutes of the phone call, if the bus is available,” said Rita Johnson, transportation program manager for the city of Oxnard. Riders may call up to seven days in advance to make a reservation, Johnson said.

Upon request, the bus will also take passengers to the Oxnard Transit Center and the C Street bus transfer center, or to the Oxnard Airport Terminal.

The cost is $1.50 for adults, 75 cents for seniors and the disabled, and free for children under 45 inches tall accompanied by a paying passenger. For more information or to schedule a pickup, call 207-0699.
