City Council members will consider a $32,400 increase to the La Paz Park project to pay for the design costs of using synthetic grass on the sports field. The increase would bring the total cost of the plan to $1.9 million.
Council members told staff members during a March meeting to research the use of synthetic grass, since the “tremendous demand” of the night-lighted fields would prevent natural grass from growing. Similar fields with natural grass often have to be shut down for renovation or resodding because they become barren within three months during the soccer season.
Ken Montgomery, director of the Public Works Department, expects the artificial grass to be installed in the spring of 2001.
The City Council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight in council chambers at City Hall, 27841 La Paz Road.
