Infant Shot in Head With BB Is Critical

OJAI — A 1-year-old girl from Ojai was seriously injured when she was hit in the head by a BB, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
The girl was struck about 11 a.m. Saturday by a shot from a BB gun as she played in her backyard in the 200 block of McNell Road.
Authorities said she was playing with two boys, both of whom are related to her. Police believe that one of the boys fired the BB gun.
The BB penetrated the girl’s brain and caused serious injury, police said. She was taken to Ojai Valley Community Hospital and transferred to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she underwent surgery Saturday afternoon. She was listed in critical condition Sunday evening.
Sheriff’s deputies called the shooting an accident but are still investigating.
