Jury Votes Death for Pimp Convicted in Hooker Killing

An Anaheim pimp convicted for kidnapping a prostitute, then killing her by setting a car afire should die for his crimes, a jury found Friday.
Gary “Dragon” Brents, 38, was convicted last month of the assault, kidnapping and first-degree murder of 25-year-old Kelly Ann Gordon in October 1995.
Brents, who had nine prior felony convictions in Los Angeles County and a history of violence, was eligible for the death penalty because he killed Gordon after kidnapping her, said Deputy District Atty. Claudia Silbar.
Brents is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 8.
Brents and four women beat Gordon in a vacant lot near an Anaheim motel, authorities said. In exchange for immunity, the women testified that they only wanted to teach Gordon a lesson and never intended to kill her.
