SAN DIEGO

Three men from the State College area were arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of operating a $100,000-a-week sports betting ring, a San Diego police spokesman said.

A two-month investigation into bookmaking in San Diego led to the search of five residences Sunday morning and the arrests, San Diego Police spokesman Rick Carlson said. He said the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

Beginning at about 9 a.m. Sunday, police searched houses in the 6900 block of Saranac Street and the 8600 block of Lake Ashmere Drive, the 3600 block of Crown Point Drive, and two apartments in the 5300 and 5400 blocks of Adobe Falls Road, according to Carlson.

“During the search, bookmaking evidence and a quantity of cash was found,” he said. “It appears that it was a betting ring for all types of professional and collegiate sports.”

Paul Andrew Selman and Daniel Aaron Rosenthal, both 25, were arrested at the house on Saranac Street, and Kenneth Lawrence Scheib, also 25, was arrested at the apartment in the 5400 block of Adobe Falls Road, Carlson said.

The three are being held at San Diego County Jail on suspicion of felony bookmaking, a jail spokeswoman said. Bail was set at $2,500 each.
