Michael Rotondi, a partner with Thom Mayne in the West Los Angeles-based Morphosis architectural firm, has been named director of the Southern California Institute of Architecture.
He was a founding member of the Santa Monica school 15 years ago and was graduated with its first class in 1973. Before his appointment, he was chairman of SCI-ARC’s graduate design faculty.
Los Angeles architect Robert Magurian has been named director of the graduate program at the school. Ann L.T. Bergren, a classics professor, has joined the faculty and will teach a graduate seminar on “The Workings of Sign and Structure.”
The school also appointed Austrian architect Wolf Prix an adjunct professor and announced that Tod Williams and Billie Tsien of the New York architectural firm bearing their name will teach a design studio for the fall semester.
