ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Sunset League : Westminster Thrives in Rain and Feasts on Edison, 32-7

On a rainy and error-filled night, Westminster High School scored a season-high five touchdowns to defeat Edison, 32-7, in a Sunset League game Thursday night in front of 1,500 at Westminster.
“It didn’t bother us a bit,” Westminster quarterback Bob Elliot said of the rain after he threw three touchdown passes for the Lions (4-3, 1-1).
Van Tunei caught two of the scoring passes as the Lions, despite turning the ball over three times, rebounded from a 20-3 loss to Huntington Beach.
“We didn’t play our game plan last week,” Elliot said. “Tonight we wanted to go out and attack people and we did.”
Ray Vannatta keyed a Westminster defense that forced five Edison turnovers, recovered a fumble and returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown.
Elliot’s first completion was good for 25 yards and a touchdown to a double-teamed Jeff Moniz. Brian O’Hara, seemingly trapped at mid-field, scored on a 67-yard run in the third quarter.
Gus Miranda scored Edison’s touchdown on a three-yard run.
