A 10-year-old boy was beheaded, a youth was stabbed to death and 173 people were arrested in strife-torn black townships in the Pietermaritzburg area, South African police said. The boy was attacked by four or five men, according to the boy’s 8-year-old brother, who was injured. Officers said they did not know the motive. The boy’s murder and the stabbing of the youth, 18, occurred in black townships that have been torn by feuds between black radicals and conservative vigilantes. At nearby Edendale, officers said they arrested 165 men and eight women for possession of dangerous weapons, including a firebomb.
