Jury selection continued in former presidential aide Michael K. Deaver’s perjury trial, while in a pretrial hearing in a separate courtroom in the U.S. Courthouse, U.S. District Judge Thomas Flannery denied defense motions to dismiss the indictment against Lyn Nofziger, former White House political director. Deaver is charged with lying to a grand jury and a House subcommittee on possible ethics law violations. Nofziger is accused of violating the Ethics in Government Act by contacting former White House colleagues on behalf of clients. Flannery reserved decision on several motions, including a claim that the indictment did not properly allege that Nofziger intended to violate the ethics law.
