Crude steel output in the non-communist world rose 6.8% in September to 36.1 million metric tons from 33.8 million tons in the year-ago period, the International Iron & Steel Institute reported. The United States reported a sizeable gain in production while European Economic Community production dropped and moderate gains were posted by Japan, Brazil and South Korea. U.S. production jumped 35.3% to 6.93 million tons in September, EEC production dipped 3.2% to 10.37 million tons and Japanese production rose 1.3% to 8.02 million tons.
