The California Department of Insurance ordered Centaur Insurance, a Chicago-based property-casualty insurer taken over by Illinois regulators in September, to cease doing business in California, except for any contractual renewals. Centaur, active mostly in the reinsurance market, has already voluntarily suspended operations. Insurance Commissioner Roxani Gillespie set a public hearing on the company for Nov. 4 in San Francisco.
