Venezuelan Central Bank President Hernan Anzola, 42, has resigned because he wants to resume his career in the petroleum industry. “My resignation is solely and exclusively due to my decision to return to the petroleum industry, to which I belong,” he told reporters in his office. Economists said Anzola, 42, a chemical engineer by training and a state petroleum official by profession, disagreed with other government officials over the need to raise interest rates. Anzola had called for a rise in the rates to curb inflation, now at record levels, but the administration has declined to enact the measure.
