American Brands’ income jumped a record 306% to $128.3 million for the third quarter, compared to the year-ago quarter. Sales from continuing operations also grew 32% to $2.5 billion for the quarter. Continuing operations exclude the results of Sunshine Biscuits, Pinkerton’s and Taylor Food Products plus the U.K. Pumps & Valves business, in accord with previously announced plans to sell these companies. The Old Greenwich, Conn., firm attributed the results to gains in its tobacco, financial services, distilled spirits, office products and other consumer products businesses.
