Quarterback Jim McMahon will be activated this week and could possibly play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka said.

“Will we activate him? Yes,” Ditka said of McMahon, who has been on the injured reserve list recovering from shoulder surgery last December. “Will he start? I don’t know. Will he play? I don’t know. He threw the ball very well. He had speed on the ball and zip. There is no discomfort in the arm.”

Ditka said McMahon left for Los Angeles immediately after practice for a precautionary check with Dr. Frank Jobe and will be back in time for practice today.
