SEATTLE — Sen. Daniel J. Evans, 62, announced today that he will not seek reelection next year to the office he has held for the last four years.
Evans, a moderate Republican who won his spurs as a three-term governor and who has never lost an election in Democratic-leaning Washington state, had kept political observers, potential opponents and even his own staff guessing until the last minute about whether he would run in 1988. Evans becomes the fifth senator to announce he will not seek reelection.
