Firefighters today used a stretcher hanging from a hook-and-ladder fire truck to rescue a 300-pound man who was seriously injured when his car crashed down a steep hill in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The unidentified man’s car went off the side of West Encino Hills Drive, south of Encino, and plunged 50 feet down a steep embankment at 7:48 a.m. The man’s girth caused firefighters problems, firefighters said. Once up the hill, the man was transferred to a helicopter and flown to UCLA Medical Center in critical condition with undisclosed injuries, they said.
