Five African nations--Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi and Mozambique--face famine and will need large amounts of aid, the Food and Agriculture Organization said in its quarterly report. Serious crop failures in the north and east of Ethiopia are inevitable, and the 950,000 tons of food requested in September by that nation could prove inadequate, the report said. In Angola, where civil strife has affected harvests, city dwellers and refugees will be almost entirely dependent on food imports, while in Mozambique, rebel activity has affected food distribution, it added.
