More than half the Arizonans polled in a random survey last week believe Gov. Evan Mecham should resign, the Arizona Republic said. The poll, conducted for the Republic and KPNX-TV, marked the first time the newspaper had posed the question of resignation to voters. Fifty-three percent said they thought Mecham should resign, 43% said he should not quit and 4% were undecided. The latest poll also showed 50% support recall of the governor, an increase of 3% over those favoring recall in a poll concluded Oct. 2. But the number opposing recall also increased, from 41% in early October to 46% last week.
