Monterey Inn Better

We have to admit that we file each of Jerry’s Travel Tips and recommendations, so when we are ready to go we just reach into our file. Fall is a special time on the Monterey Peninsula, so into the file we went. Old Monterey Inn seemed to be high on the list, so that was our destination.
I think Jerry needs to return for an update since his original article. He would hardly recognize it. It is absolutely spectacular. The gardens are wall to wall flowers. Hammocks beckon by the creek, a rose garden scents the air, while tall redwoods and California oaks shelter all. The inn is an ivy-covered three-story Tudor with lots of windows. Each of the 10 accommodations with bath have oversize beds, and most have wood-burning fireplaces, plus a special decor and color for each.
We have to say that our stay there was the highlight of our trip. It was so comfortable and beautiful that we can’t wait to return. Thanks to Jerry for the tip. Keep up the good work. It’s Old Monterey Inn, 500 Martin St., Monterey, Calif. 93940, phone (408) 375-8284. Rates $130-$155; three special accommodations $170-$195. Reserve well in advance.
