Bush Isn’t Worried About Stock Slump

Vice President George Bush wound down his seven-state presidential candidacy swing with a leisurely Saturday in Newport Beach.
Bush departed from his prepared speech and said at a meeting of the California Federation of Republican Women that he is not worried by Friday’s record drop in the stock market.
“The underpinnings of the economy are strong and I expect the American people will see that, the people in the market will see that, so I don’t worry about yesterday’s market,” he said.
This speech, and a scattering of meetings with Southland supporters, left Bush six hours of private time--nearly as much time to himself as he had altogether since Monday when he began his official candidacy announcement tour.
Bush is scheduled to conclude his tour today with a barbecue in Dallas.
