Zeitlin’s ‘Truest Tribute’
Thank you for reprinting the long excerpt from Jake Zeitlin’s article in the Book Review (Sept. 6). All of the other Times pieces about Jake--the obituary, the editorial and even Ward Ritchie’s article--seemed merely shopping lists of accomplishments compared to Jake’s own words, which were the truest and best tribute and the most revealing of the thoughtful, sensitive, gentle man his friends knew and loved. Had he known he was writing his own memorial, he couldn’t have wished it to be better.
