A Stranger’s Unselfish Help
I would like to express my views on “people not wanting to get involved,” and to thank, if I may, a complete stranger, who did choose to get involved.
On the evening of Sept. 25, my husband and I were involved in a very bad three-car collision on the San Bernardino Freeway. We had slowed to a stop at a busy interchange in Pomona when we were rear-ended by another car traveling between 65-70 miles per hour. Our car was completely demolished and we both sustained injuries.
After the impact, my first conscious recollection was of a young woman, standing over me saying, “Don’t move! Don’t move until the paramedics get here.” For nearly an hour, she held my hand and gently talked to me until they did arrive. In my dazed condition, I learned little about her except that she was on her way to a Bible class, that she was not involved in the accident, and that she had simply stopped to see if anyone was injured.
During the confusion of fire engines, paramedics, police and tow trucks, she quietly drove off. I didn’t even get her name. I feel that her unselfish concern for a fellow human being should not go unrecognized.
So, dear lady, if you should read this, please accept our most sincere thanks.
