Poll Finds Many Resigned to Huge AIDS Death Toll

WASHINGTON — Nearly half of American adults believe it is “very likely” the AIDS virus will infect and kill a large share of the population, a survey released Thursday showed.
Forty-eight percent believed it was “very likely” and 32% believed it was possible that HIV, the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome, will infect and kill a large share, although the survey did not define what that share was.
The survey of 601 adults, conducted in July, was published Thursday in the American Medical News, an American Medical Assn. publication.
