Claremont : Mudd Professor Honored
Philip C. Myhre of Claremont, chairman of the chemistry department at Harvey Mudd College, has been named Seeley Mudd professor, the third department head in the college’s 30-year history to hold that honor.
Myhre, who has been at Harvey Mudd College since 1960, succeeds J. Arthur Campbell, who held the Seeley Mudd chair for 18 years. The professorship is named for one of the early supporters of the Claremont Colleges, who left $1 million for their development when he died in 1927. Seeley W. Mudd was the first chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Claremont Colleges and the father of Harvey Mudd, who carried on the family’s tradition of supporting the schools.
