The $23-million Compri Hotel at Cabrillo Marina--billed by its developers and local business leaders as the project that will mark the beginning of San Pedro’s transition from industrial hub to resort--is set to break ground on Friday. It is scheduled to be finished in a year.
“This is the first major, significant project to break ground,” said D. Leron Gubler, executive director of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce. “It’s going to be a gorgeous center that’s going to help us, as we’ve been trying to change San Pedro’s image for years.”
Carol Nelson, public relations agent for the developers, called the Compri “the first resort hotel to come into San Pedro.”
In addition to the 226-room, three-story hotel, the project will include a two-story, 13,000-square-foot building for retail stores; a three-story, 27,000-square-foot office building and a two-story, 10,000-square-foot restaurant.
