The body of a Carson photographer was recovered Monday from an abandoned mine shaft near Rosamond, in Kern County, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said, after a Torrance youth told them he dumped it there.
The 17-year-old admitted killing Barnet Nenkies, 44, who he said was a child pornographer, after an argument over nude photographs of him, according to Deputy Willie Miller.
Miller said the investigation began Oct. 2 when the youth was pulled over by Torrance police for a minor traffic violation and they found in his car a gun and computer that he admitted were stolen from Nenkies.
Deputies subsequently went to the photographer’s apartment, where they found photographs and videotapes showing homosexual acts involving juveniles, Miller said.
The suspect, who was not identified, was charged with murder and was being held without bail at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.
