The makers of pirate Beastie Boys, Dokken and Grateful Dead posters have been stopped in their tracks by a San Francisco federal court judge. NEA Enterprises, which operates as Select Industries of Walnut Creek, Calif., admitted selling the bogus posters, but claimed it was entitled to do so because it had obtained photos authorized by the rock groups. U.S. District Judge Thelton E. Henderson granted a preliminary injunction in favor of Winterland Productions, which markets the rock ‘n’ roll posters, arguing that NEA’s photo copyright did not give it the right to “exploit” these images commercially.
