2 Oceanside Men Die in Crash

Two Oceanside men were killed in a pre-dawn traffic accident on Carlsbad Boulevard in Carlsbad after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, which fell down an embankment and overturned.
The county coroner’s office identified the victims as Michael Louis Lopez, 18, the driver, and Jerry Jay Fitch, 20. Both were killed at the scene, said Deputy Coroner Charles Kelley.
A spokesman for the Carlsbad Police Department said the vehicle was northbound at a high rate of speed when it ran off the road just north of La Costa Avenue.
The accident wasn’t discovered until 6:50 a.m. by passers-by and was believed to have occurred several hours earlier.
Carlsbad police request that any witnesses call the department’s traffic division, 931-2106.
