Former UC Irvine players Scott Brooks and Tod Murphy were signed by National Basketball Assn. clubs Thursday.
Brooks, a guard, signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, and Murphy, a forward, signed with the Clippers.
Brooks, who transferred to Irvine in 1985 from San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, led the Anteaters in scoring during the 1986-87 season with an average of 24 points per game. He will report to training camp today.
Murphy, out of Lakewood High School, played for the Anteaters from 1982-86 and is Irvine’s top career scoring leader (1,778 points) and all-time rebounding leader (837).
The Clippers also announced the signing of five draft choices--forwards Norris Coleman, Chad Kessler and Henry Carr, guard Tim McCalister and center Martin Nesley--and three other free agents--centers Jim Lampley and Steve Ladesma and forward David Thirdkill.
The nine players will report today, when the Clippers open training camp under their new coach, Gene Shue, at Cal Poly Pomona.
