RTD Chief Dyer Resigns
John Dyer, embattled chief of the Southern California Rapid Transit District, resigned today. During a news conference at RTD’s downtown headquarters, Dyer said his resignation will be effective Jan. 31, 1988.
He has been fighting to hold on to his $119,000-a-year job for the last two years as criticism over a variety of problems at the RTD has continued to increase. Some elected officials blame Dyer for lax management, while other detractors say he is to blame for high absenteeism, high accident rates and drug use among transit district drivers.
