Pro Musicis Has a Day on Skid Row

Some snoozed and some closed their eyes, but most of the 200 men who packed the Union Rescue Mission’s main hall Thursday gave a rousing reception to noted cellist Sharon Robinson, of New York’s Pro Musicis. Robinson, who played selections from Rachmaninoff and other classical composers, asked whether anyone in the audience would like to comment on the music, and one homeless man asked if she would play something “pizzicato”--or by plucking. He was, he explained to the crowd, once a cellist himself. Robinson, accompanied by pianist Margo Garrett, performed downtown for free on behalf of Pro Musicis after giving a recital Wednesday night at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Leo S. Bing Theater.
