Radio disc jockey Rick Dees will help start “The Choice for Me: Drug Free” Red Ribbon Week during a rally Oct. 13 in the Civic Center’s outdoor amphitheater.
Dees, host of KIIS-FM’s morning show, will make an appearance before students, parents and business leaders who have been invited to attend the 3 p.m. rally.
Cheryl Lawrence, the Huntington Beach Police Department’s crime prevention specialist, said students from Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley elementary and high schools have been invited to the 45-minute, outdoor rally, where red ribbons with messages opposing substance abuses will be distributed. A band will entertain, and “kids will be performing anti-drug songs,” Lawrence said.
The ribbons, Lawrence said, symbolize a pledge against drug use and are part of a campaign sponsored by Californians for Drug-Free Youth Inc., a nonprofit statewide group. For information, call (714) 536-5246.
