The Newport Harbor High School girls’ volleyball team won the San Marcos Invitational at UC Santa Barbara with a stunning 15-0 victory over Corona del Mar in the final Saturday.
Newport Harbor (5-0) was led by Jenny Evans, who was successful on 9 of 11 kill attempts. Sienna Curci serve for seven straight points, five of which were aces.
“It was one of those games that we couldn’t do anything wrong and they couldn’t do anything right,” said Dan Glenn, Newport Harbor coach.
Corona del Mar’s semifinal match may have been a factor in Newport Harbor’s victory. The Sea Kings, who won the Orange County championships two weeks ago, defeated Irvine in the semifinals 17-15, in a game that lasted more than 40 minutes.
